This term we have four fascinating seminars, beginning with a talk by Emily Butterworth, of King's College, London, entitled 'A Stopper for a Mustard Pot'. Taking her inspiration from an eighteenth-century porcelain 'Moutardier ordinaire', she will consider the materiality of the printed word, the recycling of literary output into grocers' wrappings, and the unease that sixteenth-century prefaces to the reader display about their possible fate in this regard. She also promises that there will be quite a lot about mustard.

The seminar takes place at 2pm in the Latimer Room in Clare College's Old Court. Tea and coffee will be available. All welcome.

For those unable to attend, a short account of the paper will be available on this site following the seminar.
